MIDDLESEX COLLEGE BASEBALL SCORES 25 RUNS IN DH SWEEP OF #1 RCSJ-GLOUCESTER

Elvys Quezada starred on the mound and at the plate in Game 1 and the Colts bludgeoned RCSJ-Gloucester with 11 runs and 8 hits in 5 innings in Game 2 as Middlesex swept the Roadrunners in a Region 19 doubleheader.

The win boosted Middlesex into the NJCAA Division III National Rankings as they entered the poll at #14 this week. The loss toppled RCSJ-Gloucester out of the top spot for the first time in the past 16 polls dating back to 2024. RCSJ-Gloucester (19-6) is currently the three-time defending NJCAA Division III National Champions. The Colts have won 11 of their past 13 games.

This was the first time RCSJ-Gloucester had been swept in a doubleheader since 2024 and marked the first series win and doubleheader sweep of the Roadrunners by Middlesex (19-7) in at least 25 years.

In Game 1, Middlesex jumped out to a 9-4 lead through three innings, but the Roadrunners tied the game with a five-run top of the fourth.

The Colts responded by scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead. After a scoreless fifth, RCSJ-Gloucester tied the game again in the top of the sixth with two runs. Once again, Middlesex had an immediate answer for those runs by scoring three in their half of the frame to retake the lead.

Quezada pitched a clean bottom of the inning to preserve the three-run win for Middlesex. The freshman righty was also the person who have the Colts the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run triple. Quezada was 2-3 with a double, triple, 3 runs and 4 RBIs in the game.

Stanley Bobadilla went 2-4 with a home run, 3 runs and 3 RBIs and Chase Trolaro went 1-3 with a home run, 2 walks, 2 runs and 3 RBIs. Jaime Tamayo went 2-3 with 2 runs for Middlesex as well.

Quezada picked up the win in relief for the Colts. He pitched the final three innings and allowed 2 runs while striking out a batter.

In Game 2, Middlesex fell behind 3-1 after one inning, but turned that deficit into a commanding 11-3 lead by scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the second and 4 more in the third. Gloucester scored 4 runs in the top of the fifth to edge closer. The game was called for darkness with Middlesex batting in the bottom of the sixth.

Tamayo had another fantastic game as the Colts leadoff hitter going 2-2 with 2 runs, 2 walks and a steal. Ryan Acquisto went 2-3 with 2 runs, a walk and an RBI.

John Oranchak and Michael Ramirez combined to drive in 7 of the Colts 11 runs in the game with each player belting a home run.

John Ryan picked up the win for the Colts. The sophomore lefty pitched 4.1 innings while allowing 6 runs.

Middlesex returns to action on Monday when they travel to Ocean CC for a single 9 inning game. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30.
