MIDDLESEX WOMENS VOLLEYBALL BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN WITH SWEEP OF SUSSEX CC

Middlesex College won a close first set and then followed with two straight dominant sets as the Colts wept Sussex County College in Women's Volleyball action.

Middlesex came from behind to win the first set 25-20 and then followed that up by winning the next two sets 25-13 and 25-10.

The Colts are now 2-4 on the season while the Skylanders fell to 2-5.

Sussex started the first set by jumping out in front of Middlesex 4-1 and held a four point lead more than halfway through the set at 16-12.

However, Middlesex went on a 4-0 run to tie the score at 16. With the score tied at 18 two points later, Sussex committed an error on a serve by Melany Gomez (Sophomore/Metuchen, NJ). Gomez then followed with an ace to give the Colts a lead they would not relinquish.

A kill by Victoria Vendrell (Sophomore/Iselin, NJ) gave Middlesex a 22-20 lead and the Colts scored the final three points from there.

In the second set, Sussex jumped out in front 3-1 again and the score was tied 9-9 as the teams remained close. However, a 14-3 run gave Middlesex an insurmountable 23-12 lead. Julia Milevoi (Sophomore/South Plainfield, NJ) provided two key plays late with a nice kill to make it 20-12 and a long shot to the back corner to give the Colts a 23-12 lead.

The third set was more of the same as it was close early, but a great run by the Colts put the game out of reach. Middlesex ended the set on an 8-2 run to gain the sweep and their second victory of the year.

Middlesex is back in action Monday when they travel to Raritan Valley. Tipoff is set for 7:00PM.
