Summer Ramirez hurled a no-hitter to grab her first collegiate win and Madison Szatkowski and Kaylin Nepton each recorded seven hits on the day as Middlesex College Softball swept a doubleheader from Ocean County College by scores of 16-1 and 13-0.
With the wins, Middlesex is now 8-12 while Ocean fell to 0-12 on the season.
In Game 1, Middlesex got out in front early, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first. The Colts added three more in the second and third innings to reach the decisive margin.
In addition to Szatkowski and Nepton, Rebecca Abbatemarco (Freshman/Edison, NJ), Jennah Schiraldo (Sophomore/Carteret, NJ) and Rebecca Ortiz (Freshman/South Plainfield, NJ) all had multi-hit games for Middlesex.
Schiraldo was 3-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Ramirez pitched five-innings with eight strikeouts.
In Game 2, the Colts had the bats working again as seven Colts had multi-hit games. Nepton led the way with a 4-4 effort. The shortstop added two runs, three RBIs and a double.
Szatkowski went 3-4 with two runs, four RBIs and two doubles.
Carla Seyfarth (Freshman/South Brunswick, NJ) reached base in all four of her plate appearances. The first basemen went 2-2 with three runs, an RBI and two walks.
The offensive outburst was in support of Marissa Lugo (Freshman/Iselin, NJ) who evened her record at 6-6 by picking up a win in a complete game effort. Lugo allowed just two hits and struck out seven in five innings without allowing an earned run.
Middlesex returns to action Monday when they take on Orange CC at home. First pitch is set for 3:30PM.
