MIDDLESEX COLLEGE SOFTBALL SWEEPS BERGEN CC TO KEEP PLAYOFF HOPES ALIVE

Middlesex College Softball pounded out 17 hits in each game, played near flawless defense and got two five-inning complete games from Summer Ramirez in the circle as the Colts defeated Bergen CC 15-1 and 16-0.

Ramirez had a great all-around day for the Colts. In 10 innings of work, she allowed only seven hits and no earned runs. She struck out six and did not allow a walk. Ramirez needed just 105 pitches to pick up both victories. Offensively, Ramirez was 5-8 on the day, with her first collegiate home run and four RBIs.

Madison Szatkowski (Freshman/Sayreville, NJ) last week's GSAC Player of the Week, continued her torrid streak as she went 6-7 as the DH with two doubles and six RBIs. She now has 44 hits, 12 doubles, and 33 RBIs on the season, all team highs.

Marissa Lugo (Freshman/Iselin, NJ) also had five hits, including a double and two RBIs. Carly Seyfarth (Freshman/South Plainfield, NJ) added four hits, including her team-leading third homerun, which was a grand slam. Seyfarth had four RBIs also scored five runs on the day.

Kaylen Tavarez (Freshman/Edison, NJ) also collected four hits, a double and three RBIs. Rebecca Ortiz (Freshman/South Plainfield, NJ) had three hits on the day, all doubles, and six RBIs, while also scoring four runs.

Kaylin Nepton (Freshman/Middlesex, NJ) contributed four hits and scored six runs, while Grace Damato (Freshman/Edison, NJ) chipped in with two hits, two walks, and three runs scored.

The Colts overall record currently stands at 12-14, with two regular season games remaining at Bucks CC on Thursday. Middlesex needs to sweep Bucks to qualify for the NJCAA Region XIX playoffs which begin on May 9.
