MIDDLESEX COLLEGE SOFTBALL MOVES TO 7-1 WITH SWEEP OF MONROE UNIVERSITY

Middlesex College used a 10-run second inning in Game 1 and rallied for seven runs in their final two at bats in Game 2 to sweep a doubleheader from visiting Monroe University of the Bronx.

The Colts, who received votes in this week's NJCAA D3 National Poll, are now 7-1 after winning Game 1, 14-5 and taking Game 2, 9-7.

In Game 1, Middlesex scored 14 runs in the first two innings giving starter Madison Rackett (Sophomore/Woodbridge, NJ) all of the support she needed in the circle. Rackett worked around eight hits and three walks, pitching out of multiple jams to pick up the complete game win.

Eight different players recoded hits in Game 1 for Middlesex and the Colts were the beneficiary of eight Monroe University walks.

Carla Seyfarth (Sophomore/Monmouth Junction, NJ) went 1-3 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs to lead the Colts offense. Leadoff batter Leah Kripaitis (Sophomore/Woodbridge, NJ) went 1-2 with two walks, three runs scored and an RBI. Rackett and Makenzie Marsh (Sophomopre/Middlesex, NJ) scored two runs each.

Game 2 was a different story as Monroe jumped out to a 6-2 lead through three innings.

The Colts began their comeback in the bottom of the fourth when they plated three runs to draw within 6-5. After the Express scored one in the top of the fifth, Middlesex answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning.

After Middlesex shut down Monroe in the top of the sixth, the umpires determined it was too dark to continue to play and since the game was regulation, the Colts were awarded the win.

Marsh, Seyfarth, Rackett, Kripaitis and Abigail Terebetsky (Freshman/Avenel, NJ) each had two hits for Middlesex. Marsh added three runs scored and two RBIs while walking once. Seyfarth and Kripaitis paced the Colts with three RBIs each.

Kelsey Guerts (Freshman/South Plainfield, NJ) started in the circle for Middlesex, but was relieved by Brackett in the third. Rackett pitched the final 3.1 innings to pick up the win in relief.

Middlesex is scheduled to return to action on Friday when they host Finger Lakes CC for a home doubleheader. First pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 3:30PM.
