KRIPAITIS, RACKETT, ORTIZ POWER #8 MIDDLESEX TO SWEEP OF CAMDEN

Leah Kripaitis went 4-4 in Game 1 and Madison Rackett picked up six hits in the doubleheader as #8 Middlesex College swept Camden CC in a road softball doubleheader.

With the wins, Middlesex moves to 20-2 on the season and stands atop the Region 19 regular season standings.

In Game 1, Middlesex scored runs in every inning on the way to a 15-7 mercy-rule win over the Cougars. The Colts scored four runs in each of the first, third and fifth innings.

Rackett and Carla Seyfarth (Sophomore/Monmouth Junction, NJ) each went 3-4 with two runs, and three RBIs. Rackett had two doubles among her three hits.

Jalena Santiago (Sophomore/Perth Amboy, NJ) drove in three runs and Gianna Rios (Freshman/Woodbridge, NJ) scored three runs.

All of that offense was more than enough to support Rackett in the circle. The sophomore righty pitched a complete game and allowed just one earned run in improving her record to 13-1 on the season. Only three pitchers in the country among NJCAA D3 schools have more wins than Rackett.

Game 2 was a tight affair as both teams had the bats going early. The Colts held a slim 7-6 lead going into the fourth, but broke the game open with an eight-run outburst to take a 15-6 lead.

Ava Austin (Freshman/Edison, NJ) and Kelsey Geurts (Freshman/South Plainfield, NJ) pitched scoreless fourth and fifth innings, respectively, to nail down another mercy-rule win.

Samirrah Ortiz (Sophomore/Woodbridge, NJ) had a huge day at the plate in Game 2, going 3-4 with a home run, three runs and four RBIs. Rackett was 3-5 with three runs and an RBI. It was her fifth three-hit game of the season.

Austin and Rios had multi-hit games for the Colts as well.

Austin started the second game and picked up the win in the circle. Geurts closed out the game for the Colts with a scoreless fifth.

Middlesex returns to action Thursday when they host Bergen CC. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30PM.
