RIOS HOMER KEYS MIDDLESEX SOFTBALL IN SPLIT WITH BERGEN CC

Gianna Rios belted a home run and had four RBIs and Megan Lavielle went 4-4 as Middlesex College softball topped Bergen CC in Game 1 of a Region 19 doubleheader 15-6.

The Colts dropped Game 2 by a score of 13-12 and currently stand at 3-8 on the season.

In Game 1, Middlesex jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the top of the first inning and cruised from there. Through the top of the third, the Colts had built a 13-0 lead on their way to a nine-run mercy rule victory.

In addition to recording 4 hits, Lavielle also drove home 3 runs and scored 2 more. Rios was 2-3 with 3 runs and a team-high 4 RBIs. Kylie Rackett also went 3-4 with 2 runs scored.

Kiarelys Soto, Lauren Goldfarb and Rayna Serronico each had multi-hit games as well.

The offensive outburst came in support of Sarah McLaughlin who picked up the win in the circle for Middlesex in a complete game effort.

In Game 2, Middlesex had built a 12-5 lead going into the bottom of the sixth, but Bergen rallied with 6 in the bottom of the frame before tying the game with a run in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.

After Middlesex failed to score in the top of the eighth, Bergen was able to push across the winning run in the bottom of the inning for the walkoff win.

The Colts return to action on Tuesday when they host Camden CC in a home doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30PM.
