BROOKDALE CC TOPS MIDDLESEX IN WOMENS VOLLEYBALL SEASON OPENER

The Middlesex College Women's Volleyball team opened their season on Wednesday night, but fell to Brookdale Community College in three sets.

Brookdale captured the sets by scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-16. 

The Jersey Blues (1-0) and Colts (0-1) battled through a close opening set that saw eight ties throughout. With the set tied at 10, Brookdale took command when they went on a 10-3 run to build a 20-12 lead.

Middlesex College showed tremendous resolve and went on a 10-3 run of their own to knot the set at 23. The Jersey Blues secured the final two points of the set though to top the Colts 25-23.

Middlesex College went up 5-4 to start the second set and held a lead through most of the set. Although the Colts never built more than a three-point lead, they held off the Jersey Blues until Brookdale tied it up at 18. From there, Brookdale went on a 7-2 run to take the second set. 

Once again, Middlesex jumped out to an early lead in the third set, but couldn't hold on as the Jersey Blues went on an 8-4 run to take command on their way to a 25-16 win.

Adrianna Pellei (Sophomore/Sayreville, NJ) had five service points, six kills and nine digs for the Colts. Kelly Bartko (Sophomore/Edison, NJ) had five service points, six assists and one service ace while Isabelle Shields (Sophomore/Old Bridge, NJ) added nine service points and five digs for Middlesex.

Middlesex College is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Union College for an 11:00AM start.
