MIDDLESEX WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS PASSAIC COUNTY COLLEGE IN 2021 OPENER
Middlesex College Women's Volleyball opened their season in style, sweeping Passaic County College in three sets.
The Colts (1-0) won a nail-biter in the first set, 25-23, then topped the Panthers 25-16 and 25-21 in sets two and three.and confidence we needed to pull off a 25-16 win in the second set. Then we closed out the match for the win."
"The team started off slow and trailed the whole first set," said Head Coach Henry Romero. "But we hung int here and came back to win. That gave us the momentum we needed to win the second set and then close the match out in the third set.
The Colts had many contributors in a balanced attack. Outside hitter Johanna Kovalewich (Freshman/Colonia, NJ) led the way with 10 kills while Kilanny Ramos-Adrian (Sophomore/Perth Amboy, NJ) had 16 assists. Libero Emi Thai (Freshman/Old Bridge, NJ) had 22 digs while Karia Berrios, a middle blocker from New Brusnwick (NJ), registered 10 service points.
"It was a real team effort," added Romero. "Adrianna Pellei (Freshman/Sayreville, NJ), Rachel Erla (Sopohmore/Sayreville, NJ), Isabelle Shields (Freshman/Old Bridge, NJ) and Kelly Bartko Freshman/Edison, NJ) all provided key offensive and defensive plays."
The Colts are back in action on Saturday when they head south to Rowan College South Jersey-Gloucester for their next match, which starts at noon.
